About

Principal Attorney at Ross Legal Group, P.C.
Karen M. Ross
STRONG REPRESENTATION My passion is the individual and their family. 20 years ago, I re-defined my law career to focus on the family. My passionate side is to work with my clients to move them to a better place. Often times, it means a divorce; other times, it mean counseling them on how to live and thrive in the marriage. It also means representing my clients in other areas, such as: estate planning, guardianship and conservatorship, real estate closings and issues, landlord representation, land contracts, employment questions, etc. I represent the family. My professional side is to handle the legal issue or dilemma my client is facing with diligence and vigor. If it’s a divorce, I implement the BEST divorce settlement possible. I thrive on achieving a settlement better than my clients can ever imagine. Spousal support, alimony, pension division, retirement account divisions, property separation, real estate sales: all taken very seriously and fought for vigorously. I know the law—both divorce and custody, and the tax law—strategies to implement the most advantageous tax settlement possible. I don’t play games, and always present the most realistic settlements achievable. I never sell my client’s “short.” I always protect their interests. I understand that at the end of the day, my client and their ex-spouse need to jointly parent their children, and 30 years from now, they will still be parenting their children. I don’t play games. I represent men and women, and protect the children—never allowing them to be used as pawns. If the issue is simple, I handle it in the most straight-forward way possible. I am not an alarmist, and I don’t take the “long-way” around a legal problem. I assist my clients to “manage the business of their life.” This business includes their divorce, child support and custody matters, finances, and implementation of divorce Judgments. To be a full-service attorney, I have extensive experience in estate planning, taxes (I own a tax service: Tax Advantage 1040.Com) and real estate sales, land contracts, and lease agreements. I represent many litigants in contract law and contract and lease enforcement. From 2005 to 2010 I represented the Department of Human Services on their neglect petitions. This continual representation allowed me to hone my trial skills, as I tried up to 20 cases per year. PERSONAL INFORMATION:: I grew up in W. Bloomfield, MI with my parents, brother and sister. I am the youngest child. My husband is from India and I have two children. I am very familiar with the Indian culture and this helps define my practice with this sub-group of clients. Sandy, the office mascot and a golden doodle, is my dog. EDUCATION: 1989—Graduated from University of Detroit Law School with a law degree. 1986--Graduated from Mercy College of Detroit: •Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing (became a registered nurse) •Bachelors Degree of Psychology Work and Legal Experience: I nursed at Detroit Receiving Hospital in the emergency room (1986), Hutzel Hospital in the step-down NICU and newborn receiving nursery (1986-1989), and William Beaumont Hospital in the step-down NICU from 1989 to 1990. My law experience includes medical malpractice defense, (1987 to 1990) and legal counsel for the Detroit Medical Center from 1990 to 1996.
Attorney at Law
MICHELLE J. DOHERTY
Legal Experience I will always remember my first semester of my first year of law school when I learned that after paying income tax your entire life, if you had saved to much money upon your death you would be required to pay federal and possibly state estate tax. I was shocked and offended by this. I was further shocked when I learned that this estate tax was paid by the average upper middle class families, not just the super wealthy. It was at that time, I decided to learn ways to avoid paying that tax, and I did. After graduation, I took this knowledge in probate and estate planning and opened my own law practice. There I hone my skills as a lawyer, and with the respect for other that I learned from my parents assisted hundreds of families plan out the business of their life. Because of the respectful relationships I fostered with those clients and the superior services I provided them, I continue to receive referrals clients I assisted in 1997. In 2003, my first son arrived and refocused my life. Instead of maintaining an active business, I decided I must center more attention on the new life before me. Without any regrets and only great hopes for the future, I closed my firm and joined Karen in her practice. Over the years, I have continued to provide my old client and then my new clients with wonderful service. Recognizing that with each client, their individual needs are not the same as any past client, giving them personalized service. Educating them about the legal process and guiding them through on a level they understood. Over the years, I have provided legal services at various legal aids centers across the metro Detroit area; I have moderated several seminars for the Institute for Continues Legal Education; and assisted many clients by making home and hospital visits when they are unable to come to my office. For several years, I tried cases for Department of Human Services. I assisted the Department by removing children from neglectful families, including terminating parental rights when necessary. I now look forward to helping with your legal needs! Personal Information I was raised by my mother and father with my 4 sibling in Shelby Twp., Michigan. Respectful family relations were instilled in me at a young age through attending church, working on frequent volunteer projects, and honoring my parents and sibling. I now share my life and this upbringing with my husband of 17 years and my 2 sons. Education 1992 – Graduated from the James Madison College of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Bachelors of Arts degree in American Public Affairs Minor in History 1997 – Graduated with Distinction from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan Certificate of Completion in Probate and Estate Planning by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the education provider of the State Bar of Michigan.
